02 Jan 2022

Following are reports from the first of Mid Tipp’s walks of 2022.
Sunday 2nd Jan, the Ramble group headed to Grange to complete the Crag loop walk. They enjoyed lovely sunshine and the views from Wellington Tower. They then took a moment to think of longstanding Mid Tipp walker and friend, the late Kathleen Cleary, who was out in Dec 2021 on their last Sunday Ramble in Dundrum. After the walk and cuppa at the cars a number of the group explored around Kilcooley Abbey. John G gave a lot of knowledge of the history of the beautiful Abbey and from a distance the group admired the house and times gone by. Thanks everyone for joining us and we look forward to the next Sunday Ramble on 30th Jan 2022.
Denise Laffan led the A Walk and she was blessed among 7 men. Denise started at Kings Yard and from there crossed the Pigeon Rock River and headed to Temple Hill where they had lunch. After that the group decided to climb Lyracappul but due to very windy conditions, decided to veer down by the side of Knockaterriff and back down to their cars.
A group of eight hillwalkers completed a circuit in the eastern Knockmealdowns as the first B Walk of the New Year. The group, led by Eddie Morrissey, started at Glenakeeffe Bridge where they commenced the long trek to Knocknagnauv. In dense mist and fog they made their way to Knocknafallia where lunch was enjoyed in the shelter of the cairn. From there the group negotiated their way in difficult conditions to Dyrick, before crossing the Gloungarrif River and returning to their cars in bright winter sunshine.
Happy New Year to all our members. Wishing you all a healthy, happy, travel-filled 2022.
