Dan Condren led A walk with a group of 12 beginning in Glenanoir in the Nire Valley, amid the remains of Glenanoir village which until about 40 years ago still had quite a few families living there. A beautiful place to begin, the walk led up to Knockshegowna, down the other side to Lake Mohra, then drifting upwards, through varied terrain including a beautifully moss-covered floor of a woodland where tree growth was hampered in the past by a forest fire, finally reaching the summit of Knockanaffrin. On a lovely clear day, with beautiful sights all round, it was back to the cars. Photo shows the A walkers high on the slopes of Knockshegowna, above the cloud filled valley of Glenanoir and with the summits of the Knockmealdowns above the cloud in the distance.

John G O’Dwyer led group of 14 on a lovely C walk around the south side of the lovely Glenary Valley. John included few stops along the way to reflect on the history of Carey’s Castle, the deserted village and Glennanore. Starting off as cloudy day, they enjoyed excellent views throughout over the surrounding mountain and valleys. Returning to carpark along woodland track lined by trees in stunning autumnal colours after successfully crossing 2 rivers in Glenary with a few new walkers it was a most enjoyable day out.

Date for your diary: Mid-Tipp Hillwalkers 29th annual Holly Walk led by John G O’Dwyer will take place on Sunday December 8th 2019. This is a relaxed walk on forest tracks, suitable for walkers of all abilities. This is always a very sociable and enjoyable event and everybody, whether involved with the club or not, is invited. Meeting place is opposite Cashel Firestation at 11am. Just bring a jacket and have sturdy footwear and maybe a Christmas hat or seasonal apparel. Please join us for a most enjoyable day out on Dec 8th 2019. Spread the word.

Note – It was proposed at our recent AGM to change the start time of our Sunday Walks from 11am to 10am for November and December, this will be reviewed again before the New Year. Next Sunday 17 Nov, A & B walks will leave from opposite the fire station in Cashel at 10am.

Walking is a great way to get fit as well as being a great way to meet new friends and see new places. Give it a go as new walkers are welcome to come along, so, for a healthy, sociable and enjoyable activity, feel free to join us in Cashel at 10am. Wear outdoor clothing and suitable footwear and bring a rain jacket and a packed lunch. A change of clothes and particularly footwear for after the walk is also strongly advised. There’s a choice of walks each Sunday, so there’s something to suit everyone.
