On Sunday 18th Feb Mid Tipp Hillwalkers had 22 people out.
6 walkers set out on a cloudy misty day on an A walk led by Dick Hennessy on the southern side of the Galtees. They made their way up the Attycran River to Galtee Beag and then on to windy Galtee Mor where they had lunch. It wasn’t a day for scenic views as visibility was poor. They returned by the Glenreagh Valley back to Kings Yard. A very enjoyable day out in foggy misty conditions.
On the C walk, a mild misty day, Joan and Tom Lysaght, together with Maura Creaney led a group of 16 up to King’s Yard, “The Galty walk”. The group headed into the Black Rock Valley. A varied and at times challenging walk was wet underfoot from the start. The going was soft after several weeks of snow melting higher up. The group headed up Monabrack and after lunch headed up the zig zags to along the Cnoc an tarbh Coll then dropped back down to the Glenreagh valley then across the O’Halloran bridge over to the track to Kings yard. The walk provided plenty of variety over the 12km. The mist was down for the day so visibility was limited, but it’s impossible to deny the beauty and solitude of the area. Super day of walking, good chat and good company.
