Sun Dec 2 Denise Laffan led the A walk. The group of 10 began their walk on the east side of the Galtees, with the crossing of a river and with the help of the wind on their backs, the group headed for Farbreaga. With high winds and fog, they then headed for Greenane with lunch at O’Loughlins Castle, from there, descended down and climbed Knockastakeen where the views on top were fabulous, enjoyable day out.
Dan Condren led the B walk group of 9. Early in walk, they passed the ruins of an old house, stones and wall now fully green with moss and, a poignant reminder of previous dwellers in our land. They continued on to do a loop around Knockanterriff mountain in the western Galtees, going up by the Pidgeon Rock stream, crossing the col and coming back by the Blackrock stream. It was a most beautiful and picturesque walk with the streams in full flow after the heavy rainfall of Saturday night, and they were accompanied by the sound of flowing water the whole way round. As they sat for lunch, the clouds cleared briefly, opening up a panorama with an unusual vie of Galtymore standing proud amidst it surrounding acolyte hills. Overall, a very sociable and enjoyable day.
