25 Feb 2018

On Sunday 25th Feb Mid Tipp Hillwalkers had 22 people out on the hills.

Report from Bridget Brown who led the B walk.
“12 walkers left King’s Yard and enjoyed a lovely walk through the woods before making their way up the Monbrack on steep ground. Lunch was on a sheltered sunny peat bank with wonderful views of Temple Hill Lyrnacappul and Galtee Mor. From there we headed up onto Bengower where conditions changed dramatically and we found ourselves walking on hard frosted ground with no visibility. It cleared as we descended down into the valley and walked out alongside the Glounreagh river. Perfect day.”

Eileen Ryan’s report of the A walk. “10 walkers in beautiful sunny weather. We started at the Nire Valley carpark, walked uphill to look down on Coomduala Lough. We then descended to the Gap and climbed steeply up onto Carraignagower where we had lunch in the shelter of the rocks. After lunch we carried on up onto the plateau where the ground was frozen hard with sheets of ice here and there. Here, for the first time, we met a little bit of fog but it had cleared again by the time we were descending by the Sgilloge lakes. It was a great walk in beautiful, sunny weather but very cold with quite a bit of wind.”
