Mid-Tipp walks on September 26 2021
There were two walks out today – an A and B walk. Unfortunately, no photographs due to wet conditions.
Willie Fahey led the A walk. Thirteen walkers started out near the Reservoir close to Goatenbridge and did a loop walk via Roche’s Hill and Knockshane. Home via the Kandanoge trail. All home safe, wet but happy. Another great day on the mountains.
Bridget Browne led B walk. The day was wet and miserable from the get go. 19 walkers set out from King’s Yard in full rain gear, but warm. Followed meandering forest track to base of Monabrack, which we then climbed with visibility dropping and wind picking up. Descended to the col and continued rising to Bengower and finally reached the Galtee wall with no visibility and high winds & hailstones hindering our search for lunch shelter. Descended down other side and had quick lunch in uncomfortable conditions. Returned to the wall and continued along it for 20 mins before veering off to the right with zero visibility while contouring and eventually arrived at the track that led us back to King’s Yard.
Dates for Diary
Mid Tipp Hillwalkers Clubs AGM will be held on Wednesday, the 13th of October at 7.30pm at Cabragh Wetlands, Cabra, Thurles, hope to see you there.
The Club is celebrating 30 years of walking and to mark this occasion, there will be one walk for everyone to enjoy leaving Cashel at 10am on Sunday, the 3rd of October. The walk will start at Rock An Thorabh carpark at 10.45am to 11am which may suit some members to arrive there rather than Cashel. After the walk, it is hoped to have a tea gathering with some light refreshments in the carpark so please bring extra tea or coffee in your flask and if any members would like to bring some extra confectionery for the celebration, that would be much appreciated, so if you are interested in joining this celebration walk, you might contact Denise at 087 9253049 to book in.
