FRIDAY EVENING WALKS
Friday 27 Aug 2021 the group headed to the beautiful Heywood Gardens, near Ballinakill, County Laois, which has it all, in the gardens, lakes dotted with water lilies and swimming ducks, woodland and some unusual architectural features. The gardens are set into a sweeping hillside overlooking farmland and peaceful Ballinakill. The architect Sir Edwin Lutyens designed the formal gardens, which are the centrepiece of the property. One of the site’s most unusual features is a sunken garden with its fountain and beautiful flowers. One could spend a while sitting taking it all in. The walk in Heywood starts close to the Gate Lodge. Information panels and signage will guide you around the magical Lutyens gardens and the surrounding romantic landscape. The group had a lovely evening in Heywood Gardens and finished off their season of Friday evening walks for 2021 with a cuppa and many cakes. Thanks everyone for heading out and a big thanks to all who baked and helped make it a most enjoyable evening.
In these strange times we are very lucky to have such beautiful walks and hills on our doorstep. Walking and meeting up outdoors has become the new norm and for our group sitting around after for cuppa and chat. It has been very enjoyable showing that walking has a lot to offer and to our many regulars who have become friends enjoying the chat and banter as we walked and climbed the hills and valleys. A big thank you to each and everyone who walked with us from May 21 to August 27. We had only 2 wet Fridays where the weather didn’t dampen the spirits and we marked 15 years of these Friday evening walks in Grange on July 16. The group visited a different location on 14 evenings. Hoping that walkers go and explore these walks again themselves and that now the fitness levels have increased that people will continue walking with the club and also come out on the Sunday walks and rambles.
The next Sunday Ramble is Sept 12 2021 and we are meeting in Cashel at Ladyswell at 10.15am. If you are interested please contact Brid at 086 8071753.
