Sunday June 3rd 2018.
In beautiful sunshine, the A Group comprising of 6 hillwalkers led by Denise Laffan started at The Vee and from there walked up along side the Sugarloaf, then headed onto Knockmealdowns where there were breathtaking views. After lunch, walked passed two lovely lakes which led them onto Knockshane and they returned to the carpark by the Glenmoylan River.
Ollie Walsh led the B group of 15 up a gully in the West Galtees today. Lovely climb that included a birthday party at the finish. All agreed that it was a great day out.
Brid Ryan Bourke & Tina Bourke led the extended Ramble to Glenbarrow. The group of 12 followed the amber route through the woodland path and along the river Barrow. Pausing at the cascading waterfall a while to soak in the sound of the water. Passing the bridge for the Slieve Bloom way we followed the
riverbank passing old ruins of farmhouses and old watermill. Lunch was enjoyed at the Ridge of Capard carpark. Afterwards the group headed up to observatory area to enjoy great views. Returning to starting carpark by boardwalk over bog and leafy lane and then more boardwalk through forest. Beautiful 3.5 hr walk enjoyed by all with a promise to return to explore more of the Slieve Blooms in the near future.
This coming Sunday (June 10th) A and C walks leave from opposite the fire station in Cashel at 11am.
