Eoin Wolahan led the A walk. The group of 8 walkers took part in poor weather conditions starting at the Nire Valley car park leading to the track towards “the gap” near Carrigshaneun. Going a further 2.4km contouring around Coum Iarthar Loughs arriving at the Lough and climbed up to the Cairn where they had a welcome lunch in very wet conditions. They followed the Coumlara river making a long decent to the pathway back to the carpark. While the weather was poor they enjoyed the 13.7 km walk and marvelled at the beautiful scenery of this wonderful part of our country.
Winnie Flynn led the B walk and group of 13. Under very wet conditions heading up north side of Galtymor, where they lunched, then down ramp to Lough Curra, where the weather brightened up to fabulous views. Well done to all and a big thanks to Ray.
Tina Bourke led 9 ramblers in mixed weather to Knockadigeen in Templederry. From car park on the Templederry/Dolla road setting off up the forest track in lovely dry weather. After climb, rewarded with some great views of Cooneen Hill and right across to the Shannon. They crossed road and onto another forest track which was the accent up to Knockadigeen. At this stage the wet gear was needed. Ground underfoot was a bit greasy from heavy rain. Shy of trig point a fog was starting to descend, so they took a short break and enjoyed the views Knockadigeen offered before heading back down the tracks again in dryer weather to their cars. Happy they had decided to head out in wet conditions the majority of group enjoyed cuppa in Shanahans in Borrisoleigh on the way home.
Note – It was proposed at our recent AGM to change the start time of our Sunday Walks from 11am to 10am for November and December, this will be reviewed again before the New Year. Next Sunday 10 Nov, A & C walks will leave from opposite the fire station in Cashel at 10am.
Walking is a great way to get fit as well as being a great way to meet new friends and see new places. Give it a go as new walkers are welcome to come along, so, for a healthy, sociable and enjoyable activity, feel free to join us in Cashel at 10am. Wear outdoor clothing and suitable footwear and bring a rain jacket and a packed lunch. A change of clothes and particularly footwear for after the walk is also strongly advised. There’s a choice of walks each Sunday, so there’s something to suit everyone.
The full programme of walks is now on our website at www.midtipphillwalkers.ie. For further information visit the website or Facebook or call Denise Laffan at (087) 925 3049 for any query re walks.
