Friday evening 30 July 2021, the walk started at the village green in Durrow to complete the 2nd half of the Durrow loop. Local lady Susan Lawlor tested our fitness as we headed along Derry road and up the Ballagh Hill. After getting our wind back we headed through the green leafy woodland track and the group chatted as they reached the busy R639. Crossing with care into Durrow Demesne at a gate lodge. Locally, it is referred to as Bishop’s Wood because in penal times a Catholic bishop was executed by a tree that survives in the forest. Woodland paths lead along to the banks of the Erkina River. The group walking along the riverbank cross over the metal bridge, through Knockanoran Wood. At the R434 we turned right and returned back to the green in Durrow. A most enjoyable walk over 11km. Thanks everyone for heading out and making it an lovely evening. A big “Thank You” to Susan for leading us on a fab walk.
Next Friday Evening 6th Aug we are heading to Kilcommon to complete the Pilgrim Path loop – meeting at Ballycahill church at 630pm Kilcommon 650pm for start of walk at 7pm sharp. Please bring a flask & snack for cuppa after walk. If interested, please book in with Tina at 086 3565134 before Wednesday 4th Aug 2021.
