Sunday 30 June 2019 Tina Bourke led 10 Sunday Ramblers to Grange to complete the Crag Loop, one of the Ramblers favourite locations, a beautiful walk of forest tracks and trails. There are many viewing points including Wellington Tower where you have great views of Tipperary, Kilkenny, including many mountains and Kilcooley Abbey. Weather was kind with only a little shower, but not enough to stop the chatter of the group as they made their way around the loop. Afterwards a cuppa and homemade scones by Josephine was enjoyed by all in Hogan’s.
17 walkers enjoyed a great day on the Galtees on a combined A and B walk led by Eddie Morrissey. The group started on the forest road just above the Lake Muskry car park and crossed the fast flowing mountain stream in the Derry Glen before climbing to the booley on Farbreaga. From there they headed west along the Galtee ridge to Grenane where the sun was noted by its absence. From there it was on to O’Loughlin’s Castle for lunch. Energised by lunch the group continued along the ridge before descending into the col and on to the final challenge of Knokastackeen. With the group in good spirits they made their way off the hill and back to the cars where even the result from Limerick didn’t dampen their spirits!
This coming Sun (July 7) the Club will have their Long Sunday Walks – there will be three walks available. Denise Laffan (087 9253049) will be leading the A Group in the Comeraghs. Ray Creaney (086 3202633) will be leading the B Group in the Galtees.
If anyone is interested in doing any of the above walks, please contact the relevant leader by the 4th of July in order to confirm numbers. Brid Ryan Bourke (086 8071753) will be leading an extended Ramble leaving Slievenamon Road Carpark at 10am. All welcome. Wear outdoor clothing and suitable footwear and bring a rain jacket and a packed lunch.
Walking is a great way to get fit as well as being a great way to meet new friends and see new places. Give it a go as new walkers are welcome to come along, so, for a healthy, sociable and enjoyable activity, feel free to join us. Just bring boots, suitable clothes and a packed lunch. A change of clothes and particularly footwear for after the walk is also strongly advised. There’s a choice of walks each Sunday, so there’s something to suit everyone.
For further information call Denise Laffan at (087) 925 3049 for any query re walks.
