8 Sept 2019

On Sunday 8 Sept 2019 Tina Bourke and Brid Ryan Bourke led Ramble to Upperchurch to compete The Eamon an Chnoic loop walk. The group of 13 enjoyed this loop exploring fields, old laneways and minor roads. On a beautiful sunny morning there were tremendous views. A number of the group remained in Upperchurch to join the 160 walkers who supported the Knockalough Loop Walk in aid of Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre. James Barry, Seamus Callanan and Paddy Cadell turned up with the Liam McCarthy cup and led out the walk. Job well done to all the Upperchurch community and Suir Haven for organising and providing lovely refreshments and raising much needed funds for Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre.

Willie Fahey led the A walk. Starting near the Reservoir adjacent to Goatenbridge in the east Knockmealdowns the group of 11 made their way to the summit of Knocknagnauv. Thereafter in a loop walk, they visited three other peaks: Knocknafallia, Knockmeal and Crohan West. It was a glorious day for walking with sunshine and a light breeze The views in this area are wonderful. A great day out was enjoyed.

The B walk was led by Ger Fewer. The group of 4 started at The Black Road, on to the coll at the east side of Galtee Beg, then up to O’Loughlin’s castle where lunch was enjoyed. They had stunning views in bright sunshine until it turned misty as they headed back to the cars along the Attychaarn River. A very enjoyable walk.

This coming Sunday (Sept 15) A and C walks leave from opposite the fire station in Cashel at 11am. Just bring boots, suitable clothes and a packed lunch. A change of clothes and particularly footwear for after the walk is also strongly advised. John G O’Dwyer is leading a lovely looped C walk around Clogheen Village.

Just a note for your diary, the Clubs AGM will take place on Wednesday, the 9th of October in Templemore College at 7.30pm.

Walking is a great way to get to know people with a similar interest with the added bonus of getting to know our local hills and mountains. There’s a choice of walks each Sunday, so there’s something to suit everyone.
