On our first night walk in a while, 15 walkers climbed Galtybeg in darkness last night. It was a beautiful dry winter’s night for the walk, wet underfoot from previous day’s rain and snow, very windy, crisp cold and foggy! The southerly wind was behind us on the ascent which meant that when we reached the top, we had shelter for our break on the other side of the mountain. Then, wearing all the layers we had and facing into the cold, strong wind as we traversed the ridge was exhilarating. Overall, it was a most enjoyable challenge, one that will surely become a fixture in the club’s calendar.
